Max founded CalneLaw in 2025 as a pure-play boutique law firm dedicated to serving clients in the consumer products industry in all areas of their business. His clients include brand owners, creators, talent, licensees, manufacturers, and agencies throughout the United States and globally. He also advises Corporate legal departments on strategies to drive operational excellence within their own organizations to increase productivity, enhance client satisfaction, improve partner experience, and reduce legal spend.

Before founding CalneLaw, Max spent over 20 years in-house at Disney Consumer Products, the largest licensor in the world with over $60 billion in retail sales. Most recently, Max was Deputy Chief Counsel leading a diverse team of attorneys across all brands and critical lines of business, including global licensing, marketing, retail, rights clearances, creative and product development, and operations.

While at Disney, Max managed its largest and most complex deals and was responsible for its most strategic licensee relationships, including Mattel, Hasbro, LEGO, Topps, Amazon, and The GAP. He was also at the forefront of innovation in developing new business models, novel transaction structures, and inventive product technology and experiences including Disney’s first internet-of-toys product lines. 

Max’s industry experience crosses all categories of merchandise and publishing (both licensed and vertical), and his legal expertise spans commercial law, business affairs, IP law, competition law, technology, privacy, security, manufacturing, product safety, environmental, and trade compliance.

Prior to Disney, Max was a corporate tax associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City and Menlo Park where he worked in private equity, mergers and acquisitions, securities, and banking for Fortune 50 clients.
